The city can be divided up into several neighbourhoods, the names of which may already be familiar. Pacific Heights, Nob Hill, Haight-Ashbury and Little Italy have all featured in many films and TV programmes. Each area has its own attractions, from famous sights to architectural gems to shops and boutiques. A fully integrated public transport system makes it very easy to get around.
San Francisco is a popular international tourist destination renowned for its steep rolling hills, an eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture, and famous landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, the cable cars, Coit Tower, and Chinatown. The city is also known for its diverse, cosmopolitan population, including large and long-established Asian American and LGBT communities.
